Playa Caletón — the calm cove
A sheltered cove, perfect if you're not in a rush. The water stays calm almost year-round, and it's where we organize snorkeling: tropical fish and coral just a few meters from shore, no need to swim out far. It's the beach we recommend for families with children, or for anyone who just wants to float for an entire afternoon.
Playa Grande — for those who bring a board
One of the best-known waves on the north coast, open to the ocean. We arrange surf lessons here on request with trusted local instructors. Don't expect flat water: this is the beach for energy, not total relaxation.
Good to know before you go
- The golf course next to Playa Grande is private, reserved for guests of the Amanera resort — it isn't an activity organized by CasaMia RD.
- Scuba diving isn't available in Río San Juan: the only structured water activity in the area is snorkeling at Playa Caletón.
Playa Preciosa — the lesser-known one
A short distance from Playa Grande, this is the beach you see in the second half of the video above: less crowded, and a good addition to the same day if you're already there for the surf. Message us if you'd like precise directions to get there.
Playa Los Minos — the village beach
The beach closest to the center of Río San Juan, mostly used by locals. It's not the most scenic, but it's convenient if you want to combine a walk into town with a quick swim.
Playa de los Guardias — sunset and volleyball
The beach where locals gather in the late afternoon: informal volleyball games and one of the best sunsets in the area. We recommend it more for the end-of-day atmosphere than for a full day at the beach.

- The beaches are reachable by car or scooter: we recommend renting one to move freely between them.
- CasaMia RD is about 8 minutes from the sea by car.
- Bring sunscreen and water: facilities along the less touristy beaches are limited.
